A view from the back

3 days, 212 miles, 2 sunburns, 1 heckle and 0 trips to the bushes

We pulled our screamin' behemoth Rans out of its 8-year sleep and credit card toured Maryland this week. The little ones were with grandparents so no stops at the kitchy stores or every bathroom.

Our best response in a small southern MD town, one woman to another at a gas station across the street: "Ain't that somethin'?"

Our worst moment: crazy youth heckling us out of their beat up tan Mazda as they sped past us on a tiny country road with no shoulder.

Our scariest moment: coming to this bridge and having to go over it.

My typical view sfrom the stoker position:

Sunburn after day#2 (hardest and hottest day):

One of the reasons we bike: treats! Have you ever seen such a tiny cone...it was perfect.

Empty

The girls have gone to their grandparents for the week. So has the cat. It is weirdly empty in the house, quiet and still. No calls for me from anywhere. I feel a bit sad.

Saying bye to the beach

The girls loved Topsail...Maiya sang an original "I can't leave the beach" song as we drove off the island. The weather was mild and the water warm. We all came home feeling a bit like an exfoliation day at the spa. The kayaking was amazing. I could live somewhere like this, at least part of the year.

To the elderly lady in her bikini working in the garden

It is definitely cooler with less when the humidity is high and temperatures go up. I can't blame you. I like to clean the bathroom after I take a shower. However, you were outside in your garden and your house is directly on a US highway with tourist headed out to the islands. Of course, the bikini definitely got us in the spirit of beach.

Now, to the man in the Speedo mowing his lawn, really think about safety.

Tour de Revs 2009

20 years and counting

Ten million
minutes
a number so large that to write
all the zeros seems
obscene
beyond comprehension
so much
done
thought
felt
given
received
how many more do we have left?
